Monnaie de Paris Relaunches Bullion to Attract Gold Investors Amid Record Prices

Paris, February 7, 2026 – The Monnaie de Paris has announced the reintroduction of the Bullion, a pure gold coin, aimed at attracting individual investors amidst a period of record-breaking gold prices. This strategic move comes as the price of gold hit a new high of $5,075 per ounce on January 26, 2026, a surge attributed in part to global market uncertainties.

The Return of an Emblematic Coin

First introduced during the time of Louis XIII, the Bullion is described by Marc Schwartz, President and CEO of the Monnaie de Paris, as "a pure gold coin sold at the market price of gold." He further clarified, "if you buy a Bullion, you buy the weight of gold contained in the coin." The Monnaie de Paris officially announced the Bullion’s return in a press release dated June 25, 2025, with availability for individual investors expected by the end of the first half of 2026.

Accessible Investment Options

The institution aims to modernize gold investment and make it accessible to a broader audience. Individuals will be able to acquire Bullions in two formats: online and physically at the Monnaie de Paris. "You can purchase a coin that will be delivered or collected at the store, or you can acquire a coin that will not be delivered immediately, with the option for later delivery," Schwartz explained.

Bullions will be available in various weights: one ounce, half an ounce, a quarter, and a tenth of an ounce. Schwartz noted that "an ounce of gold is 31 grams," which, at the gold price on February 6, 2025, was equivalent to 4,180 euros. A tenth of an ounce, therefore, would be approximately 420 euros, making it a more accessible investment for many.

Commitment to Repurchase and Long-Term Investment

For those purchasing in digital format, the Monnaie de Paris commits to repurchasing Bullions at the prevailing gold price on the day of resale. "If you believe gold has appreciated, and you wish to realize that capital gain, we are committed to repurchasing it at the day’s gold price," Schwartz stated.

The launch of these Bullions targets "medium and long-term investors" due to the short-term volatility of gold prices. The institution aims to attract two types of investors: savers seeking "the security of physical gold" and "new" investors accustomed to digital platforms, thereby "expanding the market for individual gold investors."

Diversification Strategy for the Monnaie de Paris

With this product, the Monnaie de Paris enters the individual gold investment market, a strategic move for the world’s oldest enterprise, now registered with the Autorité des marchés financiers. This diversification aims to capitalize on the "extremely strong demand" from "new investors" and to reinforce the institution’s reliability. It also seeks to "compensate for the declining trend in state orders for euro coins, which have fallen by 53% in fifteen years," as stated in the Monnaie de Paris’s communiqué.

This initiative underscores a broader trend of institutions adapting to evolving investment landscapes and democratizing access to traditional assets like gold, ensuring its relevance in modern financial portfolios.
