Lyon Metropolis: Green Light for New Stages of Four Urban Projects

Lyon, February 17, 2026 – The Métropole de Lyon has officially advanced four significant urban development projects across its territory, following a productive permanent commission meeting held on Monday, February 16. These initiatives, spanning the communes of Francheville, Rochetaillé-sur-Saône, Quincieux, and Grigny-sur-Rhône, are poised to introduce new housing, economic activities, and improved public spaces.

According to a press release from the Métropole, “These investments… aim to provide new housing solutions and facilitate residential pathways, develop new activities, and improve the quality of life throughout the metropolis.” This strategic move underscores the region’s commitment to addressing housing needs and enhancing urban infrastructure.

Francheville: 340 New Homes and Public Spaces

In Francheville, the Auriva urban partnership project (PUP) is set to create a mixed-use real estate complex. This development will comprise 340 new housing units, alongside local economic activities and public spaces. Notably, the local urban planning and housing plan (PLU-H) mandates “more than one parking space per housing unit created.” The Métropole has also committed to organizing information and exchange meetings throughout the construction phase to engage with the community.

Public spaces to be developed by the collectivity, in collaboration with the commune, include the creation of an active mobility path crossing the Taurellerie site, featuring two small squares and pedestrian lanes. Additionally, the project will involve the widening and requalification of Chemin du Moulin du Grot and Chemin des Aubépines, as well as a partial requalification of Avenue de la Table de Pierre. A new school group will also be established by the commune. The Métropole’s net investment for this entire operation is estimated at 4.2 million euros.

Grigny-sur-Rhône: ‘Bocage’ Program Advances with 79 Homes

The Métropole voted on February 16 to authorize the submission of a building permit to EM2C for the ‘Bocage’ program in Grigny-sur-Rhône. This project aims to construct 79 housing units in the Vallon district, classified as a priority urban area (QPV). The primary objective is to “offer a renewed housing supply and the creation of public spaces, including a park bordering the Garon.”

The real estate program specifically includes 5,680 m2 of floor area for private access, the creation of 134 car parking spaces and bicycle storage facilities. A significant landscaping project is also planned at the heart of the development, featuring a green corridor designed as an extension of the town’s large landscaped promenade. The Métropole’s provisional net investment for this project is also 4.2 million euros.

Quincieux: 2.8 Million Euros for ‘Centre Bourg’ Revitalization

Quincieux is embarking on the requalification of its town center, with a 2.8 million euro investment from the Métropole. This extensive project includes the redevelopment of public spaces and the creation of 57 additional housing units. A key component of this initiative is the strengthening of local shops and services, with the planned installation of a health center within the Îlot des Flandres.

Rochetaillé-sur-Saône: 133 New Homes and a New Nursery

The “Jardins du train bleu” PUP in Rochetaillé-sur-Saône focuses on creating a “new offer of diversified housing,” seamlessly integrated with green spaces. Following the withdrawal of several real estate operators, the Métropole approved a new urban partnership project agreement with Les Nouveaux Constructeurs. This will result in 7,435 m2 of floor area, equivalent to 133 housing units, and the establishment of a new nursery.

The Métropole will also oversee the roadworks necessary to serve the future site, which will be integrated into the urban fabric of Rue Bouchard. The provisional amount disbursed by the collectivity for this project stands at 970,000 euros.

These four projects represent a concerted effort by the Métropole de Lyon to foster sustainable urban growth, enhance living conditions for its residents, and support local economic development across the region.
