LYON, March 5 – A new video, filmed minutes after the riot that led to the fatal lynching of Quentin Deranque on February 12, 2026, in Lyon, has emerged, shedding light on previously unknown aspects of the case. The video, described by our colleagues at Le Progrès this Thursday, March 5, adds a new dimension to the events that transpired after the violent confrontation.

The Incident: A Clash and a Fatal Outcome

The events unfolded on February 12, 2026, on the sidelines of a conference by MEP Rima Hassan at Sciences Po Lyon and a demonstration by the far-right identitarian collective Nemesis. Initially, the thesis of a simple brawl between two rival groups was set aside by Maître Fabien Rajon, the victim’s family lawyer, in favor of “a gratuitous lynching by several individuals, outnumbered and armed.”

A video previously published by Le Canard enchaîné revealed that a confrontation between two violent groups preceded the fatal blows dealt by six individuals to Quentin Deranque as he lay on the ground, after the riot had ended. Quentin Deranque, a 23-year-old close to the neo-Nazi movement, died in the hospital on February 14 from his injuries.

New Video Details: A Heated Conversation

The newly described video, filmed at 6:07 PM on February 12, depicts a “heated conversation” between residents and friends of Quentin Deranque who participated in the riot. Deranque is seen getting up, bloodied, conscious, but appearing completely dazed and with no memory of the events.

A witness reportedly contacted emergency services, who were en route to the scene near Rue Victor-Lagrange in Lyon’s 7th arrondissement. However, those around Deranque advised him to leave. The following exchange is reported by Le Progrès:

  • A woman protests: “Why? This man was hit on the head!”
  • A male voice explains: “No, but these are things they take responsibility for. They are there for that.” The woman retorts: “They were there for that, to be hit on the head? Do you watch the news?”
  • A very confident male voice replies: “There were two groups fighting. It was an organized fight, okay?”
  • An friend of Quentin’s then states: “I think he needs to go to the hospital because he looks really bad.”
  • The woman agrees: “That’s what I’m saying, he needs to go to the hospital.” The friend continues: “But if he doesn’t want trouble with the police, he has to leave.”

Deterioration and Fatal Injuries

When the video ends, Quentin Deranque has not said a word. What followed was not filmed: it is known that the victim left before the arrival of emergency services and traveled nearly 2 km to reach his home before passers-by eventually called an ambulance on Quai Fulchiron, where Quentin Deranque finally collapsed, exhausted, shortly before 8 PM.

He died in the hospital on February 14 from his injuries, which, according to the medical examiner, would have been fatal regardless of the medical treatment administered.

Ongoing Investigations and Arrests

The case has seen further developments, including the urgent dismissal of one of Quentin Deranque’s “best friends” by the RN after “unforgivable remarks.” Additionally, two new suspects were arrested with the help of counter-terrorism units in connection with Quentin Deranque’s murder, as reported earlier by Lyon news outlets.

The emergence of this new video is expected to provide crucial insights into the circumstances surrounding Deranque’s death and the actions of those present in the immediate aftermath of the riot. Authorities continue to investigate the incident to fully understand the sequence of events and bring all responsible parties to justice.
