Meyzieu, March 6 – Authorities in Meyzieu, a suburb of Lyon, responded to a terror threat at the Colonel Arnaud Beltrame High School this week. The incident, which began with a social media message, prompted a significant police presence and thorough searches of students’ belongings.
Instagram Threat Triggers Police Response
The alarm was raised on Wednesday afternoon when a parent contacted the police after their daughter saw a message on Instagram threatening an attack at the high school the following day, Thursday, March 5. The threat was taken seriously by local authorities, leading to immediate action.
According to reports, the police, in coordination with the prefecture, initiated a control operation at the school. Officers were deployed early Thursday morning, between 7:30 AM and 8:15 AM, to search students’ bags as they arrived at the institution. The high school is named after Colonel Arnaud Beltrame, a gendarme who heroically substituted himself for a hostage during a 2018 terror attack in Trèbes and later succumbed to his injuries.
Searches Conducted Throughout the Day
Further searches were reportedly conducted in the early afternoon, ensuring comprehensive security measures were in place. Fortunately, no elements suggesting an impending attack were discovered during these operations, and the security alert was eventually lifted.
Investigation Underway
The Lyon police have launched an investigation into the origin of the threat. The incident highlights the ongoing vigilance required in public spaces, particularly educational institutions, in the face of potential online threats.
This event underscores the importance of prompt reporting of suspicious online activity and the swift response of law enforcement to ensure the safety of students and staff.
