Paris, April 20 – Transavia France inaugurated a new direct air route between Paris and Sarajevo on April 17, 2026. This initiative is expected to bolster relations between France and Bosnia-Herzegovina, fostering increased travel for both tourists and business professionals.
New Direct Route Bolsters France-Bosnia Relations
The introduction of this direct flight by Transavia, the low-cost subsidiary of Air France-KLM, signifies a strategic move to enhance connectivity between the two nations. Bosnia-Herzegovina has been experiencing a surge in its appeal as a tourist destination, with the number of visitors reaching 246,000 in August 2025, a significant increase from 151,000 in August 2021, according to Trading Economics. This new air link is poised to meet the growing demand and encourage closer ties.
During the inaugural flight on April 17, 2026, the Ambassador of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Višnja Lončar, emphasized the broader significance of this development. “The opening of this direct line between Paris and Sarajevo represents much more than a new air connection. It reflects a common desire to bring our two countries closer, to foster exchanges, and to create new opportunities for cooperation in many areas,” stated Ambassador Lončar.
Transavia Expands International Network from Paris-Orly
Transavia is actively expanding its international network. In addition to Sarajevo, the airline also launched a new route to Pisa on April 17, 2026. Furthermore, direct flights to Araxos (Greece) and Bourgas (Bulgaria) commenced on April 20, 2026. All these new routes originate from Paris-Orly Airport.
The company is also increasing the frequency of flights on existing routes, including those to Venice, Madrid, and Stockholm. In parallel, Transavia has been adding direct connections from its regional bases. Notable examples include flights from Nantes to Bari (Italy), Lyon to Izmir (Turkey), and Montpellier to Djerba (Tunisia).
Growing Attractiveness of Southeast European Countries
The increasing number of direct flights to countries in Southeast Europe underscores their growing attractiveness as travel destinations. This trend is driven by a combination of cultural richness, scenic beauty, and competitive pricing, drawing in a diverse range of travelers.
This expansion by Transavia is part of a broader strategy to strengthen its presence in key European markets and offer more travel options to its customers. The airline’s focus on both new destinations and increased frequencies on popular routes reflects its commitment to enhancing connectivity and meeting evolving passenger demands.
