Lyon, April 25 – The ‘Le Court-Circuit’ bar-restaurant, situated on Place Mazagran in Lyon’s 7th arrondissement, has been ordered to close for one week by the Rhône prefecture. This administrative closure follows a series of reported disturbances to public order, including excessive noise and alleged drug-related activities.
Repeated Incidents Lead to Closure
The establishment, ‘Le Court-Circuit’, has garnered attention on several occasions for issues related to public order. Authorities noted a particularly disruptive incident on September 13, 2025, when loud noise from the terrace was reported at 11:30 PM, audible from the public street. This was not an isolated event, as the bar had received prior warnings for similar noise nuisances in May and June of the same year.
Further escalating the concerns, police officers observed illicit activities in December 2025. These included the unauthorized sale of cigarettes directly in front of the terrace and instances of drug dealers approaching customers to offer illegal substances. The prefecture’s assessment is clear: “The terrace of Le Court-Circuit is regularly used as a place for the exchange and sale of narcotic products outside of any commercial activity.”
Seven-Day Closure Imposed
To “prevent any new disturbance to order, security, or tranquility,” as stated in the prefecture’s decree reviewed by actu Lyon, a seven-day closure has been imposed on the bar-restaurant. This decision comes amidst ongoing concerns about violence in the area around Place Mazagran. The closure order must be prominently displayed on the establishment’s facade for the duration of the shutdown.
Owners Announce Legal Challenge
In response to the closure, the manager of ‘Le Court-Circuit’ has taken to social media, describing the decision as an “extremely serious threat to the survival” of the establishment. The manager further stated that they are “awaiting a court hearing to have this decision, which we find unjust, annulled.” This indicates a forthcoming legal challenge against the prefecture’s order.
This incident is part of broader efforts by local authorities to address public order issues in certain areas of Lyon. The prefecture’s swift action underscores a commitment to maintaining peace and security for residents.
