The TCL public transport network in the Lyon metropolitan area is set to undergo major changes starting August 31, 2026. These adjustments will affect several metro, tram, and bus lines, with modifications to routes and schedules designed to better serve the evolving travel needs of passengers, as announced by TCL in a press release.
Tramway T4 Extension and New Stops
One of the most notable changes is the extension of tramway line T4. During school weeks, the T4 will be extended to IUT Feyssine, adding three new stops: INSA Einstein, Croix-Luizet, and the IUT Feyssine terminus. This extension aims to improve connectivity for students and faculty in the area.
Introduction of New Bus Lines and Reorganizations
A new bus line, C27, will be introduced, resulting from the merger of line C11 and a portion of the former C3. This new line will connect Saxe-Gambetta to Vaulx-en-Velin La Grappinière, offering convenient connections with metro lines A, B, and D, as well as TramBus lines TB11 and TB12.
Line C26 will also see a complete reorganization between INSA Einstein and Grange Blanche, with a new stop created at Pôle Pixel in Villeurbanne. Additionally, line 69 will now serve Le Transbordeur, which will become its new terminus. The frequency of line 69 will be increased, with buses running every 15 minutes during peak hours and every 20 minutes during off-peak hours.
Changes in the Metropolitan Area Beyond Lyon and Villeurbanne
Several areas outside Lyon and Villeurbanne will also benefit from network adaptations. Line 49 will be extended in Sainte-Foy-lès-Lyon to Rue Sainte-Barbe, which will become its new terminus. A new line, 44, will connect the center of Collonges to Collonges-Fontaines station, providing a practical option for commuters.
The future line 248, currently line 47, will continue to link Meyzieu Z.I., Lyon-Saint-Exupéry Airport, and Saint-Laurent-de-Mure. Its daily trips will increase from 44 to 58, representing an increase of over 30%. A new stop will be established near the airport’s freight and logistics zone. During weekdays, service will be available from 5:30 AM to 10:00 PM.
The future line 230, currently numbered 30, will also see its route evolve to better serve the Pesselière and Z.I. du Dauphiné activity zones from Saint-Priest and tramway T2.
Line Numbering Changes
Some bus lines will also undergo numbering changes starting August 31. The Gare Express lines will be renumbered from 130 to 132, while the ZI lines will become lines 145 to 150. The Junior Direct school lines will retain their numbering between 300 and 999.
All detailed updates and new schedules can be found on the TCL website or application. These changes are part of a broader effort to enhance the efficiency and accessibility of public transport across the Lyon metropolitan area, aiming to provide a more responsive and comprehensive service for all commuters.
