Armored Van Attacked Near Lyon: Suspects Flee After Failed Robbery
Beynost, March 24 – A scene straight out of an action movie unfolded near the commune of Beynost (Ain), located less than 20 km northeast of Lyon, on Tuesday morning. Around 10:30 AM, an armored van, believed to be transporting funds, was the target of a violent attack by three to five armed individuals, as reported by BFM Lyon.
The Attack Unfolds in a Commercial Zone
The incident took place in a commercial area of Beynost, close to the E.Leclerc supermarket, within the Batterses zone. Numerous witnesses in the area reported seeing a thick plume of smoke rising from the scene, indicating the severity of the attack.
Armed Suspects Attempt to Incinerate Van and Assault Occupants
According to initial reports, the suspects, traveling in a vehicle, deliberately rammed the armored van. The contents of the van remain undisclosed. The assailants, armed with firearms, then allegedly attempted to set the armored vehicle ablaze before assaulting its occupants.
Despite their aggressive tactics, the perpetrators were ultimately unsuccessful in seizing the cargo being transported by the armored van. They subsequently fled the scene, leaving behind a trail of damaged vehicles. The judicial police of Lyon have taken charge of the investigation into the incident.
Burned Vehicles Discovered in Neighboring Communes
As of Tuesday, March 24, at 4:35 PM, both vehicles used by the attackers were found burned and have since been removed. The vehicle used by the suspects to escape was also found incinerated in Thyl, a neighboring commune, according to information received.
The brazen attack highlights concerns regarding security for cash-in-transit vehicles in the region. Authorities have not yet released any information regarding potential arrests or the identities of the suspects.
The investigation is ongoing, with law enforcement officials working to piece together the events of the morning and apprehend those responsible for this violent attempted robbery.
