Fire Breaks Out in Lyon Clinic Basement, 80 Residents Safely Evacuated
Lyon, March 10 – An early morning fire in the basement of a private clinic located on Rue Dunoir in Lyon’s 3rd arrondissement led to the deployment of extensive emergency services and the safe evacuation of 80 residents. The incident, which occurred shortly before 6:00 AM on Tuesday, resulted in no reported injuries.
Extensive Emergency Response to a Difficult-to-Locate Fire
Firefighters from SDMIS 69 were alerted to the blaze around 5:45 AM. The fire originated in a technical room in the R-1 basement level of the building, which houses a clinic for the elderly. Initial reports indicate that the fire caused significant smoke generation, and according to information available at midday, it is believed to have been an electrical incident in an underground parking area.
Firefighters initially faced difficulties in locating the exact source of the fire, necessitating a substantial response. A total of 84 firefighters and approximately thirty vehicles were deployed to the scene. Specialized reconnaissance equipment was also utilized to pinpoint and extinguish the blaze.
Horizontal Evacuation Ensures Resident Safety
The fire was successfully extinguished, but it caused an impact on the technical installations of the establishment. In response, 80 residents of the private clinic were safely evacuated. This involved a “horizontal transfer,” where residents were moved to an unaffected section of the building, away from the smoke. Authorities confirmed that no injuries were sustained by any residents or staff during the incident.
This swift and effective response by emergency services ensured the safety of all individuals within the clinic, preventing a potentially more serious outcome. The incident highlights the importance of robust safety protocols and efficient emergency response in facilities caring for vulnerable populations.
Further investigations into the exact cause of the electrical incident are expected to be conducted.
