Five Teenagers Arrested in Lyon for Aggravated Robberies and Assaults
Lyon, February 5 – Five teenagers, aged between 14 and 15, were taken into police custody on Tuesday in Lyon. They are suspected of being part of a gang responsible for a series of aggravated robberies and assaults in the city’s 7th arrondissement, particularly in the Girondins district.
The arrests follow months of repeated reports from residents, passers-by, and cyclists who have fallen victim to attacks by a group of young individuals. The latest incident, a violent assault on a 20-year-old man in his apartment building lobby last weekend, appears to have expedited the police intervention.
Investigation Reveals Extensive Criminal Activity
Initially, at least two individuals were apprehended in connection with the weekend assault. However, the number of arrests has since increased. The Lyon public prosecutor’s office confirmed that the interdepartmental police directorate of the Rhône proceeded with the arrest and placement in custody of five minors on Tuesday for “aggravated theft and theft with a weapon.”
While not all the apprehended minors are suspected of participating in every incident, the gang they belong to – reportedly comprising about ten members – is believed to have committed at least 13 violent robberies between October 18, 2025, and January 31, 2026, within the 7th arrondissement of Lyon.
Ongoing Investigations and Potential Further Arrests
According to initial reports, some of the five individuals arrested are suspected of having used payment methods stolen from the young man assaulted on Saturday evening. The Lyon public prosecutor’s office stated that “the police custody measures for these minors are still ongoing, and investigations are continuing to determine the role of each of them.”
Sources indicate that further arrests related to this case are expected in the near future as the investigation progresses. The authorities are working to fully dismantle the network responsible for the disturbances and criminal activities that have plagued the Girondins neighborhood.
Residents of the 7th arrondissement have expressed relief following the arrests, hoping that these actions will lead to a significant reduction in the incidents of aggression and theft that have made their daily lives difficult for several months.
The police and judicial authorities are committed to ensuring the safety and security of the community and bringing all perpetrators of these acts to justice. The focus remains on a thorough investigation to identify all involved parties and prevent future occurrences of such crimes.
The outcome of the ongoing investigations and potential legal proceedings will be closely monitored by the local community and media.
