Former Daycare Worker Sentenced to 30 Years for Acid Murder of Infant in Lyon
Lyon, January 30, 2026 – Myriam Jaouen, a former daycare assistant, was sentenced this Friday to 30 years in criminal detention by the Ain Assize Court of Appeal. The court found her guilty of the murder of 11-month-old Lisa in June 2022, ruling that she had “voluntarily caused the death” of the infant.
Appeal Upholds Murder Charge
The verdict comes ten months after her initial conviction for “torture or acts of barbarity resulting in death without intent to kill.” However, the appeal court this time upheld the murder charge, which implies the intent to kill, aligning with the prosecution’s request. Prosecutor Baptiste Godreau argued that the accused acted “with full awareness” and “cowardly took the life of a defenseless child.”
The Tragic Events of June 2022
The case dates back to June 22, 2022, when Lisa’s father dropped her off at the Danton Rêve micro-crèche in Lyon. When the 11-month-old began to cry, Myriam Jaouen administered a “massive” dose of a sulfuric acid-based product, similar to drain cleaner, directly into the infant’s mouth. Lisa tragically died several hours later, after four hours of “extreme” suffering, according to a doctor who testified in court.
“I ask you to find her guilty of the crime of murder; she consciously killed with a lethal toxic product, administering it directly into the mouth of an 11-month-old child.”
Baptiste Godreau, Prosecutor
Repeated Lies and Attempts to Conceal
Throughout the trial, investigators highlighted the former employee’s repeated lies. Immediately after the incident, Jaouen searched the internet for “what to do when a child has eaten toilet unblocker.” She also cleaned up vomit from the floor, changed Lisa’s clothes, and ran a washing machine. Upon the arrival of other parents, she fabricated a story, claiming that a tube of gouache had exploded, and its projections had reached the baby’s mouth, even spreading some on her own pants to support her version of events.
Apologies and Psychiatric Assessments
On Friday, Myriam Jaouen offered her apologies to Lisa’s parents. “I want to apologize to the family, every day I think of Lisa,” she stated. Various psychiatric evaluations described her as “immature” and “moderately” intellectually deficient, but “without proven mental illness” that would have altered her judgment at the time of the facts.
This ruling concludes a painful three-day hearing, affirming the court’s stance on the intentional nature of the infant’s death.
