Paris, January 14 – La Flèche d’Or, a significant cultural and community hub located in the 20th arrondissement, is set to undergo a major transformation. The venue, housed in the former Charonne train station, will close for renovations on June 27, 2026, with an anticipated reopening in 2027 featuring a new project.
Not a Permanent Closure, But a Transformation
Contrary to earlier reports in some media outlets suggesting a permanent closure, the managing collective has clarified that La Flèche d’Or will not be closing its doors for good. Instead, the current iteration of the venue will conclude, paving the way for a revitalized space. The announcement was made via a social media post by the collective, which comprises eight groups: Curry Vavart, Gare XP, Collectif Mu, DOXA ESTA, Pieg, Ancoats, DOC, and ObliQ.
Reasons for the Closure and Future Plans
The collective stated: “Activity is decreasing. The La Flèche d’Or project, as it is today, will end on June 27, 2026. The venue will then be closed for renovations. In parallel, a call for projects will be launched by the City of Paris for the permanent occupation of the venue. To anticipate this closure and allow for the smoothest possible transition, we have chosen to progressively adapt our organization and resources. This will result in a reduction of activity and salaried staff. Volunteer commitment remains, more than ever, at the heart of the venue’s life. We therefore have six months left to write together the end of this beautiful adventure.”
Éric Pliez, the mayor of the 20th arrondissement, provided further details regarding the necessity of the renovations. In a Facebook post, he mentioned “small creatures eating the beams,” indicating structural issues that require immediate attention. The City of Paris, as the owner of the premises, will launch a call for projects to determine the future permanent use of the space.
Continued Socio-Cultural Activities Until June 27
Despite the impending closure, several socio-cultural activities will continue at La Flèche d’Or until June 27, 2026. These include:
- Psychological and rights access support
- Family and youth activities
- Free access to activities
- A subscription to support La Flèche and benefit from a 25% discount on all paid events, which will continue until July 1
- The solidarity canteen, open Fridays and Saturdays from 12 PM to 2 PM, with shared kitchen access for individuals housed in social hotels in the afternoons, as well as Sunday outreach and solidarity breakfasts.
These ongoing initiatives highlight the venue’s commitment to its community until the very end of its current operational phase.
Impact and Broader Context for Paris’s Cultural Scene
The temporary closure of La Flèche d’Or for renovations and its subsequent relaunch are part of a dynamic cultural landscape in Paris. The city is continually adapting and renewing its cultural offerings. This transformation underscores the ongoing efforts to maintain and evolve cultural spaces, ensuring they remain relevant and structurally sound for future generations.
The call for projects by the City of Paris indicates a strategic approach to the venue’s future, inviting new ideas and collaborations to shape its next chapter. This process will undoubtedly attract various cultural actors eager to contribute to the vibrant Parisian scene.
La Flèche d’Or has been a significant fixture in the 20th arrondissement, known for its engaged cultural programming. Its temporary hiatus marks an end to an era but also promises a new beginning for a space deeply embedded in the local community.
