Lyon, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France, January 28, 2026 – The Lyon Metropolis is continuing its policy of supporting city-center commerce. On January 26, its permanent commission voted to allocate €103,000 to accompany six city center management structures across the metropolitan area.

Renewed Financial Commitment to Local Commerce

This funding aims to maintain, energize, and diversify local commercial activities, in a context where the attractiveness of city centers remains a major economic challenge for local authorities. City center management structures bring together public and private actors within common organizations, committed to promoting and enhancing local commerce.

Based on the aid reports from 2025, the Lyon Metropolis has decided to renew its financial support for six animation structures:

  • The commune of Neuville-sur-Saône,
  • The commune of Givors,
  • The Lyon 7 Rive Gauche association,
  • The My Presqu’île association,
  • The Oullins city center association,
  • The Société villeurbannaise d’urbanisme.

In total, €103,000 will be distributed among these city center management structures to support their operational actions.

Action Plans Focused on Animation and Commercial Development

Thanks to this funding, the structures concerned will be able to deploy several types of actions. These include the organization of commercial and event animations designed to increase foot traffic in city centers, especially during key periods such as year-end holidays, Valentine’s Day, or Mother’s and Father’s Days.

The action plans also include communication and territorial marketing operations to re-evaluate the image of city centers, encourage strolling, and stimulate purchases from local businesses.

The scheme also includes an economic support component, with the professionalization of traders, the monitoring of new establishments as well as existing businesses, and prospecting actions aimed at encouraging the arrival of new investors and customers. The identification and occupation of vacant commercial units are also among the stated objectives.

Partnership Work at the Metropolitan Level

The development and implementation of these action plans are part of a close partnership with the Chambre de métiers et de l’artisanat Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Lyon Métropole, the Chambre de commerce et d’industrie Lyon Métropole Saint-Étienne Roanne, as well as the six city center management structures concerned.

Through this new budget allocation, the Lyon Metropolis confirms its commitment to local commerce, relying on coordinated actions between economic actors and local authorities.
