Lyon Street Food Festival Returns for 10th Anniversary XXL Edition
Lyon, Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes, France – The Lyon Street Food Festival is gearing up for its 10th anniversary, promising an unprecedented ‘XXL’ edition at Grandes Locos in June 2026. This year’s event, a decade after its inception, solidifies its reputation as a vibrant hub where culinary arts, music, and culture converge.
The festival, which began at Les Subsistances in Lyon 1, has evolved into a dynamic laboratory, extending its influence far beyond the regional borders. Fanny Suteau reports that the atmosphere at the Théâtre Renaissance in Oullins was already buzzing with anticipation for the upcoming festivities.
A Decade of Breaking Barriers
“We wanted a different kind of event, not just a fair,” recalls Émeric Richard, founder and director of the festival. “A place where gastronomy becomes lively, accessible, and embodied.” Ten years later, the core recipe remains unchanged: the “famous triptych of food, music, and culture.” However, the scale of the event has expanded dramatically.
With 130 chefs from over 20 nationalities, the festival embraces a spirit of total openness. Attendees will have the opportunity to encounter renowned chefs such as Nina Métayer (June 11-12), Romain Meder* (June 13), Gianni Spadafora from Maison Conticini (June 13-14), and Alexandre Mazzia*** (June 14). These culinary luminaries will be joined by a promising generation of young chefs. “We maintain this equality between big names and new talents,” insists the founder.
Pastry in the Spotlight and Immersive Experiences
For this milestone anniversary edition, a special focus is placed on Lyon’s emerging pastry chefs. “We feel a vibrant scene,” highlights Nathalie Montandreau, the festival’s communication manager. This emphasis will culminate in a “Sugar Circus” area and a monumental, nearly 4-meter-tall wedding cake, a living work of art crafted throughout the festival by five different chefs.
The festival also promises a journey around the world, with three dedicated culinary destinations: Flanders, Latin America, and Italy. From a wrestling ring at the heart of the “Cantina Latina” corner to the world’s best fries at the “Visit Flanders” corner, and an immersive trattoria at the “Little Italy” corner, the festival more than ever blends spectacle with the world of gastronomy.
“Cuisine is a language, a field of expression,” summarizes Émeric Richard. Here, it interacts with everything: DJ sets, stand-up comedy, dance, and street art. The event will also feature a new, large XXL music stage, an artistic exhibition space dedicated to young Lyonnais creators (the Lab des Artistes), and an Urban Stage combining urban cultures and commitments.
A Festival That Builds Community
The celebration wouldn’t be complete without music. The program features artists poised to electrify Grandes Locos, including Julien Granel, Pony Pony Run Run, Guts, as well as Romane Santarelli, Spelim, and Yuksek. This lineup, spanning electro, groove, and pop, remains true to the festival’s identity.
Over the years, the Lyon Street Food Festival has transformed into a genuine cultural platform. “This is not just an anniversary; it’s the affirmation of a project,” states Nathalie Montandreau. It is a project that champions its role as a talent scout and a connector. The press conference concluded with a performance by the Urban Arts Academy collective, mirroring the event’s dynamic spirit.
The morning concluded with a tasting prepared by chefs Pauline Armengaud (Petite Paulus), Ronan Lavillaugouet (Astral), Marvin Brandao (ALMA), and Clément Mariller (Mariller Pâtissier Rêveur), offering a tangible preview of the 2026 edition. A decade on, the festival no longer merely gathers; it unites, surprises, and, above all, continues to push boundaries.
