Helmut P., the man who was seriously injured by a police bullet on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, after threatening several people with knives in the 13th arrondissement of Paris, has died on Saturday, February 14, 2026. This information was communicated by a source close to the case to AFP. The Paris public prosecutor’s office confirmed that “the person concerned died of his injuries on February 14 in the middle of the day.”
Shot in the Abdomen by Police
The incident occurred on Wednesday, shortly before 5 p.m. Helmut P. boarded a bus on line 91 near the Gobelins stop and began to act aggressively. He notably threatened two individuals with a knife: the bus driver and a passenger who had attempted to intervene.
Police were called to the scene and attempted to apprehend him. However, “faced with the threatening behavior of the individual, who was still carrying a knife, a police officer used a Taser, which had no effect.” His colleague then used a firearm and shot the man.
Wounded in the abdomen, he collapsed and was hospitalized with a life-threatening prognosis. No bus passengers, the driver, or the police officers were injured during the incident.
Two Investigations Underway
As a result of the events, two investigations have been launched. One is for “attempted murder of a person holding public authority,” which has been entrusted to the 3rd judicial police district. The second investigation is being conducted by the IGPN, the internal affairs unit for the police, for “intentional violence with a weapon by a person holding public authority.”
The area around the Gobelins bus stop in the 13th arrondissement of Paris was cordoned off during the incident. Further details regarding the investigations are expected to be released as they progress.
