Nuit Blanche 2025: Paris Becomes an Open-Air Film Set
Paris, February 8, 2026 – The French capital is preparing for its 24th edition of Nuit Blanche, scheduled for Saturday, June 7, 2025. This year’s event, co-organized with the Métropole du Grand Paris, promises a unique celebration of contemporary art with a strong cinematic theme, transforming Paris into an “immense film set.” Valérie Donzelli, known for her directorial work, has been appointed as the artistic director for this edition.
The Nuit Blanche, a major cultural event in Parisian life since its inception in 2002, will offer free access to a diverse program of artistic installations, performances, and, notably, numerous film projections across the city and its metropolitan area. The shift of the event from October to June, a decision made after a citizen vote, aims to provide more favorable weather conditions for attendees to enjoy the nocturnal artistic wanderings.
A Citywide Cinematic Experience
The core of Nuit Blanche 2025 will revolve around cinema, with various locations hosting projections and installations. Among the highlights:
- Cinéma “Les 7 Parnassiens” (XIVe arrondissement): This cinema will showcase video works exploring the theme of resistance in its various forms, featuring artists such as Anne-Charlotte Finel, Clément Cogitore, and Alice Brygo.
- Open-Air Projections: Public spaces will be transformed into “ephemeral projection screens.” Planned locations include the sports ground of the Saint-Paul 9 gardens (Paris Centre), Quai de Valmy (Xe), Place Ferdinand-Brunot (XIVe), Place Nathalie-Sarraute (XVIIIe), and Place des Fêtes (XIXe).
- Île-Saint-Louis: This iconic island will host projects by Céline Bozon and Adrien Lamm in Square Barye and Place Aragon.
- Place Raoul-Dautry (XVe arrondissement): A 10-minute animated film by Michel Gondry, titled “Quelle Nuit Blanche!”, will be projected. Gondry is also the artist behind the official poster for Nuit Blanche 2025.
Carine Rolland, Deputy Mayor of Paris in charge of culture, emphasized the significance of this cinematic focus: “This vibrant program gives us a magnificent opportunity to celebrate 130 years of cinema and its ever-renewed history with Paris.”
Beyond Cinema: Diverse Artistic Offerings
While cinema takes center stage, Nuit Blanche 2025 will also feature a range of other artistic expressions:
- Chapelle de la Sorbonne (Ve): An immersive sound and light installation will captivate visitors.
- Gymnase de La Bidassoa (XXe): A dynamic DJ set is planned for those seeking a more energetic experience.
- Petit Palais (VIIIe): This prestigious venue will host additional projections and performances.
- Catacombes de Paris: For the first time in its history, Nuit Blanche will venture into the Catacombs, offering an unprecedented sound and visual journey.
The associated programming will also include special events at the Cognacq-Jay Museum, the Victor Hugo House, and the EDF Foundation. Several communes within the Métropole du Grand Paris will also participate, as they have annually since 2019.
The June Shift: A Response to Public Demand
The decision to move Nuit Blanche to June, effective since 2023, was a direct result of a citizen consultation. Parisians and residents of the Métropole overwhelmingly expressed a desire for the event to take place in June, hoping for more favorable weather conditions. The 2021 edition, marred by rain and wind, prompted this change, ensuring a more pleasant experience for the thousands of attendees who explore the city’s artistic offerings throughout the night.
Practical Information
Nuit Blanche 2025 will run from 7 PM to 2 AM. All events are free of charge. Detailed program information will be available on the official Paris.fr website closer to the event date.
