Off-Duty Police Officer Stabbed in Paris While Aiding Robbery Victim
Paris, April 27 – An off-duty police officer was wounded on Sunday, April 26, in the 15th arrondissement of Paris after intervening to help a person who was the victim of an attempted theft. The officer, who was with his partner, was attacked with a knife.
Incident Unfolds Near Bir-Hakeim Metro
The incident occurred around 4:40 PM on Sunday, April 26, at the intersection of Rue Saint-Charles and Rue Rouelle, not far from the Bir-Hakeim metro station. An individual attempted to steal belongings from a homeless person.
Witnessing the scene, an off-duty police officer and his partner intervened to assist the victim. The alleged thief then drew a knife and threatened the two witnesses, who initially moved away.
Officer Disarms Attacker, Then Assaulted
While his partner contacted the police, the off-duty officer managed to disarm the alleged assailant. At the same time, a group of bystanders approached and began to assault the officer, a police source told TF1-LCI. Taking advantage of the commotion, the thief then stabbed the officer in the left shoulder blade before falling and injuring his head.
Police Intervene, Suspects Arrested
A police patrol, dispatched to the scene at the request of the officer’s partner, apprehended the alleged assailant who inflicted the knife wound, as well as another man who had punched the victim.
The off-duty officer was transported by firefighters to the Georges-Pompidou European Hospital. His life is not in danger. The alleged knife attacker, a homeless individual, was taken to Saint-Joseph Hospital for open wounds to his forehead and nose, as well as neck pain. His life is also not in danger.
Investigation Underway
An investigation has been opened by the Paris public prosecutor’s office, and inquiries are currently ongoing to determine the full circumstances of the incident.
