In the early hours of last Friday morning, the interior of a kosher restaurant located in the 17th arrondissement of Paris was targeted in an acid attack. The Paris public prosecutor’s office has launched an investigation into the incident, treating antisemitism as an aggravating factor.
Presumed Antisemitic Act in Paris
CNEWS teams visited the site and observed a white powder scattered across the establishment’s tables, which caused the cutlery to rust due to its corrosive properties. Residents of the neighborhood, familiar with the restaurant, expressed their shock.
“It’s quite shocking, especially as we are in the heart of Paris,” one passerby stated. Another resident questioned, “It’s quite shocking, it’s a kosher restaurant, so the fact that it was burned with acid, could it not be linked to the Shoah? Is this not an indicator of a possible antisemitic act?”
Special Fire Department Unit Deployed
This is not the first time the restaurant has been subjected to vandalism, including acid attacks. The initial assault occurred last October, but only the facade was targeted. This time, according to information from Le Parisien, the restaurant’s door was forced open during the night of Thursday to Friday to spread the acid inside the establishment.
Alerted by employees, firefighters responded with a special unit dedicated to managing nuclear, radiological, biological, and chemical threats. The Paris public prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation, including the aggravating circumstance of antisemitism.
Rising Antisemitic Acts in France
According to figures from the Ministry of Interior, 1,320 antisemitic acts were recorded last year. While this number represents a slight decrease compared to 2024, it is three times higher since the attacks of October 7, 2023.
This incident underscores a concerning trend of antisemitism in France, prompting calls for increased vigilance and protection for Jewish communities and establishments.
