Paris, December 23, 2025 – Paris Metro Line 2 experienced severe disruptions this Tuesday morning following a technical incident at Villiers station. The incident, which occurred around 7:00 AM, led to the complete interruption of service between Monceau and Rome, impacting thousands of daily commuters.

Traffic Interruption and Gradual Resumption

The technical malfunction at Villiers station rendered traffic impossible on a crucial section of Line 2. Initially, RATP had announced a full resumption of service by noon. However, a partial resolution was achieved earlier, around 7:30 AM, though significant delays persisted across the entire line.

Commuters faced immediate challenges as the service opened. The disruption first affected traffic in the direction of Nation, before escalating to a complete suspension between Villiers and Rome, and subsequently extending to Monceau. As a result, the stations of Monceau, Villiers, and Rome were out of service for several hours, forcing Parisians to seek alternative transportation methods.

Cause of the Incident Remains Undisclosed

RATP, the autonomous transport authority, confirmed a technical malfunction at Villiers station but did not provide specific details regarding the nature of the problem. The authority utilized its social media platform, X, to provide regular updates to passengers. “Our maintenance teams are currently on site to resolve the malfunction as quickly as possible so that traffic can resume without delay between Monceau and Rome,” stated RATP in its communications.

Additional Complications and Alternatives

Despite the earlier-than-expected partial resolution, the entire Line 2 continued to experience significant delays throughout the morning. An additional complication arose with a train door malfunction at Nation station, further exacerbating the disruptions. Passengers were advised to allow for extra travel time and exercise patience.

For those affected, several alternative routes were recommended. Passengers could utilize Line 3, which also serves the Villiers area. Bus services in the 17th arrondissement provided another viable option, as did Line 13 for connecting to other metro lines. RATP encouraged travelers to consult the RATP application or the Île-de-France Mobilités website for real-time traffic updates and itinerary planning.

In summary, commuters traveling through the 17th arrondissement on Tuesday morning were strongly advised to plan their journeys well in advance and consider alternative routes. While the situation was expected to progressively normalize during the day, residual delays were anticipated to persist for several more hours across Line 2.
