Paris, February 7, 2026 – The City of Paris, committed to supporting animal welfare, has officially renamed its ‘Maison de l’animal en ville’ (City Animal House) to ‘Maison de l’animal en ville-Jane Goodall’. This decision, reached through a unanimous vote by the Council of Paris, honors the legacy of the renowned English primatologist and animal rights advocate, Jane Goodall, who passed away on October 1, 2025.
A New Hub for Animal Welfare in Bercy Park
The City Animal House, located in Bercy Park, not far from the hedgehog care center in Bois de Vincennes, opened its doors on February 4, 2025. This initiative by the City of Paris aims to educate residents and visitors about animals, both domestic and wild, that share the urban environment.
The facility seeks to improve human-animal relationships, promote animal care and protection, and encourage best practices for coexisting with animals in the city.
Services and Activities Offered
The ‘Maison de l’animal en ville-Jane Goodall’ provides several key services and educational activities:
- Veterinary Care Access: Regular clinics are held on Thursdays for individuals facing financial hardship or homelessness.
- Educational Workshops: The center organizes dog and cat training workshops, temporary thematic exhibitions, conferences, and school and extracurricular activities to raise awareness about animal causes.
- Support for Animal Protection: In close collaboration with various associations, the house hosts discussion and debate forums on critical issues such as animal abandonment and mistreatment.
The center is accessible to companion animals and welcomes visitors during the first week of each month, from Tuesday to Saturday, 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM, and on Monday from 2:00 PM to 5:30 PM.
Paris’s Ongoing Commitment to Green Initiatives
The renaming of the City Animal House is part of a broader series of significant projects undertaken by Paris in 2025, demonstrating the city’s dedication to environmental and social causes. These include the opening of a press cartoon museum, the creation of a memorial garden, and the development of new urban forests.
The City of Paris continues to invest in initiatives that enhance the quality of life for both its human and animal inhabitants, fostering a more compassionate and sustainable urban environment.
