Paris, January 9 – A devastating accident unfolded in the early hours of Friday morning in the 15th arrondissement of Paris, leaving a VTC driver and a pedestrian in critical condition. The incident, which occurred around 1:45 AM on Rue de Vaugirard, involved a Mercedes-Benz Class V VTC that veered off the road, struck a pedestrian, and subsequently collided with the facade of a commercial establishment.

The pedestrian, born in June 1992, sustained severe injuries, and medical personnel have indicated that his life is in danger. The two passengers of the VTC, born in November 1987 and February 1992, were also hospitalized, along with the VTC driver, whose life was also reported to be at risk last night.
Investigation Points to Excessive Speed
Preliminary findings from the ongoing investigation suggest that the Mercedes van, transporting two Finnish nationals, first hit the pedestrian before crashing into a restaurant wall. The damage observed, including the dislodgement of five metal poles, strongly indicates that the vehicle was traveling at a considerable speed. The driver, a Pakistani national born in December 1981, presented an Italian driving license and is currently receiving treatment at the hospital, according to the Paris public prosecutor’s office, which has launched an inquiry.
The Judicial Accident Treatment Service (STJA) has been tasked with leading the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. In response to the incident, three SAMU vehicles and five fire department vehicles were dispatched to the scene.
As of Friday, it remains unclear whether the life-threatening prognoses for two of the four victims have changed.
