Wizz Air to Connect Paris-Beauvais with Varna, Bulgaria, from June 2026
Paris, March 28, 2026 – Low-cost carrier Wizz Air is set to inaugurate a new summer seasonal service between Paris-Beauvais Airport (BVA) and Varna Airport (VAR) on Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast, commencing June 17, 2026. The route will feature two flights per week, providing travelers with an affordable option for holidays.
Flights between Paris-Beauvais and Varna will operate every Wednesday and Sunday. This schedule aims to cater to both short breaks and full-week vacationers. Tickets are already available for purchase on the Wizz Air website, with promotional one-way fares starting from €39.99, though prices can reach up to €159.99 depending on dates and availability. This new connection will enable French travelers to easily access the Bulgarian seaside, while Bulgarians will have direct and economical access to the Paris region.
Existing Bulgarian Connections from Paris-Beauvais
Currently, direct flights from Paris-Beauvais to Bulgaria are primarily limited to Sofia (SOF), the capital, served by two low-cost airlines. Ryanair offers approximately four flights per week (typically Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays), while Wizz Air complements this with about two weekly flights (often Mondays and Fridays). Beyond Sofia, and prior to the launch of the Paris-Beauvais – Varna route by Wizz Air, no other direct connections exist to other Bulgarian cities. These destinations typically require a layover in Sofia. According to fare comparison sites like Bourse-des-Vols, airfares to Bulgaria remain highly competitive, often starting from €20-€40 for a one-way ticket (excluding baggage or seat selection) depending on promotions and dates, from Paris-Beauvais and other regional French cities such as Lyon, Nantes, and Nice.
Wizz Air Strengthens its Network at Paris-Beauvais
Wizz Air, already a significant presence at Paris-Beauvais (Beauvais-Tillé), is expanding its network, primarily focusing on Central and Eastern Europe and the Balkans. In Romania, the airline has been serving Craiova since autumn 2025 and will launch a new route to Târgu Mureș on May 1, 2026, with two weekly flights (Monday and Friday) for the summer 2026 season. From late March 2026, Wizz Air will also connect Paris-Beauvais to Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro, and Tuzla in Bosnia and Herzegovina, while continuing its service to Yerevan (Armenia). With these additions, the low-cost carrier is approaching twenty regular destinations from Paris-Beauvais, including several in the Balkans.
Varna: A Developing Base for Wizz Air
The Paris-Beauvais – Varna route is part of Wizz Air’s ambitious expansion plan at Varna Airport, which is operated by the German manager Fraport. The Hungarian low-cost airline will base a third Airbus A320 aircraft at the Bulgarian airport for summer 2026, facilitating the addition of five new direct routes: Barcelona, Athens, Paris-Beauvais, Debrecen, and Gdansk. In total, Wizz Air will offer 23 destinations from Varna this summer 2026, adding 500,000 extra seats and creating nearly 400 local jobs. This growth reinforces Varna’s role as a key air gateway to the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, offering an ideal connection for a sunny summer with affordable low-cost airfares.
Tourism in Bulgaria: Varna, Sofia, and Other Cities
Bulgaria offers a rich array of tourist cities, blending ancient history, Ottoman and Soviet architecture, Black Sea beaches, and a vibrant cultural atmosphere. On the Black Sea coast, Varna, known as the ‘maritime capital,’ is presented as a ‘sunny’ destination offering beaches, entertainment, and access to the region’s resorts. For Paris-Beauvais Airport, this new route aligns with a strategy to diversify leisure destinations towards Central and Eastern Europe. “This new line to Varna enhances Beauvais’ appeal for travelers seeking sun at a low price,” stated the airport management to Oisehebdo, emphasizing the low-cost positioning of the Picardy platform.
Sofia, the Bulgarian capital, surprises with its contrasts: the majestic Alexander Nevsky Cathedral stands alongside Roman ruins (Serdica), neoclassical buildings, and a dynamic young and creative scene. Plovdiv, often considered the country’s most beautiful city, is one of Europe’s oldest continuously inhabited cities. Its historic quarter with colorful half-timbered houses, ancient Roman theater, and the artistic Kapana district make it a must-visit. Veliko Tarnovo, a former medieval capital, captivates with its spectacular setting: the Tsarevets fortress overlooking the Yantra River, its picturesque streets, and romantic atmosphere make it one of the country’s most photogenic cities.
Along the Black Sea coast, the small historic towns of Nessebar (a UNESCO World Heritage site) and Sozopol perfectly complete the picture with their cobblestone streets, Byzantine churches, and bohemian charm. Whether you are drawn to history, the sea, or urban culture, these cities form the contemporary tourist heart of Bulgaria.
