Paris, January 20, 2026 – The Paris Montparnasse Observatory, a popular attraction providing panoramic views of the French capital, is set to close its doors for an extended period of renovation. The closure will commence on March 31, 2026, with the observatory not expected to reopen for several years.
Extensive Renovation Project for Montparnasse Tower
Perched at 210 meters on the 56th floor of the Montparnasse Tower, the Paris Montparnasse Panoramic Observatory has long been a draw for tourists and Parisians alike, offering unparalleled vistas of iconic landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower. However, the entire Montparnasse Tower, a prominent skyscraper in the 15th arrondissement, is embarking on a significant modernization project.
The closure of the panoramic terrace is a direct consequence of this comprehensive renovation. The project, projected to cost over 600 million euros, will transform both the monument itself and its surrounding area. All occupants of the tower, including Magnicity, the owner and operator of the Observatory, have agreed to temporarily cease operations to facilitate the refurbishment.
A Glimpse into the Future of Montparnasse
The renovation initiative, scheduled to begin in 2026 and last for at least two years, aims to revitalize the Montparnasse neighborhood. This legendary Parisian area, situated at the intersection of the 14th, 15th, and 6th arrondissements, will undergo a major transformation, including the redevelopment of the Montparnasse Tower and its long-abandoned shopping center.
A Hub of Culture and Entertainment to Temporarily Cease Operations
Since its opening in 1974, just one year after the tower’s launch, the Paris Montparnasse Observatory has been more than just a viewing platform. It has served as a vibrant cultural hub, hosting a diverse range of events, including exhibitions, concerts, lively parties, fashion shows during Fashion Week, and even a winter ice rink.
Before its closure at the end of March 2026, the Panoramic Observatory remains open to visitors. This presents a final opportunity for individuals to experience the spectacular view of Paris before the extensive renovation work begins. Tickets are available starting from 19 euros.
The temporary closure marks a significant moment for one of Paris’s well-known attractions. While the renovations promise a modernized and enhanced experience in the future, visitors are encouraged to make their final visits to the observatory in its current form before March 31, 2026.
