Paris Children’s Advocate Receives 150 Reports of Sexual Violence in After-School Settings

Paris, February 1, 2026 – The Children’s Advocate for the City of Paris, Dominique Versini, has revealed that her office has received around 150 reports concerning sexual violence in after-school programs since she took office in December 2025. This surge in reports highlights a critical issue within the capital’s educational support system, leading to the suspension of approximately 40 animators.

Alarming Number of Reports Since December

Dominique Versini stated, “I have received about 150 reports since mid-December, primarily concerning after-school activities.” She emphasized that these reports reflect “a lot of concerns about past events. But at least what we see is that parents dare to do it, because children are able to speak.” Versini noted that the issue of sexual violence has existed “since time immemorial. But we only talk about it since courageous people, adults, have denounced what happened to them, in all environments,” paving the way for children to speak out.

Forty Animators Suspended in 2025 Amidst Investigations

In 2025, a total of 40 animators were suspended in Paris. Of these, 20 were suspended due to suspicions of sexually related offenses. This issue has gained significant traction, especially after a Cash Investigation report aired on France 2, which highlighted systemic failures within after-school programs, particularly in Paris. The report underscored the urgent need for stricter oversight and accountability within these settings.

Addressing the concerns raised by the investigation, Versini asserted, “Any animator who has engaged in this type of behavior cannot be placed in another school. Perhaps the administration had this type of habit, but it is not possible, it is no longer possible. And, in any case, it is not the will of the Parisian executive.” Following the Cash Investigation broadcast, the municipality promptly filed a report with the Paris public prosecutor and immediately suspended two animators implicated in the magazine’s findings.

The Broader Context of Child Protection in Paris

The increasing number of reports and suspensions underscores a broader problem within child protection services. Critics argue that the social assistance for children is often inadequate in safeguarding them from harm. This sentiment is echoed by various stakeholders calling for comprehensive reforms and increased vigilance. The ongoing discussions around this issue have also influenced the electoral campaign for the mayor of Paris, with candidates facing pressure to address these critical concerns and propose effective solutions.

The city’s commitment to addressing these issues is evident in the swift actions taken, including the suspensions and legal referrals. However, the sheer volume of reports indicates that a more profound, systemic approach is required to ensure the safety and well-being of children participating in after-school activities. The focus remains on creating an environment where children feel secure and empowered to report any form of abuse, and where such reports are met with immediate and decisive action.
