Lyon, February 12 – An incident unfolded yesterday afternoon in the Lyon metropolitan area involving a stolen Audi S3, a police chase, and shots fired. The luxury vehicle, reported stolen in Switzerland, was eventually located and pursued by gendarmes.
Stolen Audi S3 tracked to Saint-Symphorien-d’Ozon
The incident began when the owner of a stolen Audi S3 alerted the gendarmerie that their vehicle was geolocated in the commune of Saint-Symphorien-d’Ozon, a town near Lyon. Gendarmes swiftly responded to the location in the early afternoon.
Upon arrival, officers located the Audi S3 parked in a housing estate. Initially, they intended to approach the vehicle on foot and call a tow truck. However, they soon discovered a man in the driver’s seat.
Driver attempts to flee, gendarme fires shots
The situation escalated when the individual behind the wheel abruptly reversed the vehicle, then accelerated sharply, driving directly towards the two gendarmes. Despite being ordered to stop, the driver refused to comply. Faced with the Audi advancing towards them, one of the gendarmes discharged their weapon three times, targeting the vehicle’s tire.
Despite the tire being punctured, the driver managed to flee the scene. According to sources close to the investigation, the vehicle was subsequently found several kilometers away, in Feyzin, still south of Lyon, around 5:20 PM. As of now, it remains unclear whether the suspect has been apprehended by law enforcement.
Investigation underway
The gendarmerie has initiated an investigation into the incident. Further details regarding the driver’s identity and the circumstances surrounding the car theft are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses. This event highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat vehicle theft and ensure public safety in the region.
