According to Paris firefighters, the blaze originated in a sixth-floor apartment of a seven-story Haussmann-era building. The cause of the fire remains unknown, but flames quickly spread to the roof, consuming an estimated 600 square meters of the structure.
In response to the escalating situation, 150 firefighters were dispatched to the scene, supported by 25 vehicles. The fire was brought under control by early afternoon, meaning its spread had been halted. However, full extinguishment of the blaze is expected to be a lengthy process, with a significant deployment of resources anticipated to remain on-site until Tuesday.
Impact on Residents and Ongoing Operations
Residents living directly below the sixth floor of the affected building, located opposite the Étienne Marcel metro station, may not be able to return to their homes on Monday evening. This is due to the extensive amount of water used during the firefighting operations, which has likely caused significant water damage to the lower floors.
Firefighters will continue their efforts to fully extinguish the fire and ensure the safety of the structure. The investigation into the exact cause of the fire will commence once the site is deemed safe for examination.
