Fugitive Inmate Arrested in Senegal After Louvre Museum Escape
Paris, March 19 – A prisoner who fled during a cultural visit to the Louvre Museum in Paris last Friday has been apprehended in Senegal, sources close to the case confirmed to TF1-LCI on Wednesday. The inmate, from Nanterre detention center (Hauts-de-Seine), was arrested upon his arrival in the African country after several days on the run.
Escape in Public Transport
The escape occurred last Friday at the Auber station, at the exit of the RER A, a police source reported. The inmate reportedly fled towards Metro Line 7 around 2:30 PM, evading the correctional officers. He was part of a group of three inmates, supervised by six correctional personnel, who were traveling to Paris for a cultural outing at the Louvre Museum.
Convicted for Burglary and Drug Trafficking
Born in 2001, the individual had been convicted for “burglary” and “drug trafficking,” according to a source close to the investigation. He was scheduled for release in 2028. The Nanterre public prosecutor’s office announced on Saturday the opening of an investigation for “escape of an inmate on temporary release,” which has been entrusted to the judicial police of Hauts-de-Seine.
Extradition Process Initiated
Following his apprehension, the inmate will be placed under extradition warrant, another source informed AFP. This marks the end of his brief period of freedom, which began with a daring escape from supervision during what was supposed to be an educational and cultural excursion.
