Nouvelles Galeries Bron Aims for 4-5 Million Annual Visitors After September 2026 Opening
Lyon, March 30 – The Nouvelles Galeries Bron, situated at the entrance of Lyon, is nearing the completion of its extensive transformation. Following the opening of the new Galeries Lafayette store in autumn 2024, the commercial offering will be further enhanced with the inauguration of a new shopping gallery in September 2026. This comprehensive development is projected to attract between 4 and 5 million visitors annually, establishing the site as a premier shopping destination.
Extensive Commercial Offering and Leisure Facilities
The redeveloped site will encompass a total of 37,000 square meters dedicated to shopping, dining, and leisure. The new commercial gallery will host 70 to 80 new businesses. Among the first brands to be announced are Normal, the fitness club On Air, restaurants such as Berliner, B&W Burger, and Pokawa, the Italian caterer Casa Risi, the sandwich shop Faiparla, the chocolatier Voisin, and a historic pharmacy.
Marine-Axelle Blaise, Senior Asset Manager at Citynove, the real estate company of the Galeries Lafayette group, stated, “We still have ongoing negotiations, but the commercialization rate is good. We are confident about the occupancy level at the inauguration next September.”
Complementary Offerings and Return of Monoprix
The new gallery’s commercial offerings are designed to complement those of Galeries Lafayette, which already features brands like SMCP (Sandro, Maje, Claudie Pierlot & Fursac), Sœur, American Vintage, Hugo Boss, Balibaris, Vanessa Bruno, and Barbour.
Blaise detailed the diverse range of services: “There will be a local hub on the ground floor, directly accessible from the metro, with a bakery, a butcher, a wine merchant, and more. A leisure hub, centered around a major brand, will offer multiple activities. Additionally, a ready-to-wear and home furnishings section, positioned for quality but less premium than Galeries Lafayette, will be established. The Monoprix food surface will return to its original footprint, and 10 to 15 restaurants are planned.”
Strategic Location and Accessibility
The Nouvelles Galeries Bron benefits from two significant advantages expected to draw a large customer base: 1,800 parking spaces and a metro station (Mermoz-Pinel on line D) located directly at the foot of the stores. This excellent accessibility is crucial for achieving the ambitious visitor targets.
“The footfall at Galeries Lafayette is already exceeding our expectations. The number of visitors will increase further, as the store is currently somewhat impacted by the ongoing construction work,” explained Marine-Axelle Blaise.
Project Timeline and Investment
The completion of the construction, initially slated for spring, experienced a slight delay due to a longer-than-expected asbestos removal process. “The shell is complete, and the interior finishing work is about to begin. The first commercial units will be delivered at the end of April,” Blaise confirmed.
This extensive transformation of the site, originally built in 1964, represents an investment exceeding 100 million euros. The project is being managed by the Moatti & Rivière agency for architecture and the Aisslinger studio for interior design.
