The incident, confirmed by easyJet, was attributed to a minor technical issue, leading to a delay for passengers traveling to Lyon.

The Airbus A320, which departed from Palma de Mallorca, initially took off as planned. However, just moments into the journey, the aircraft began circling above the Spanish island before making its return to the tarmac. The total flight duration before returning was approximately 37 minutes, significantly shorter than the usual 1.5 to 2-hour travel time between the two airports.

According to information gathered from passengers and subsequently confirmed by the airline, the decision to return was a precautionary measure. An easyJet spokesperson stated, “easyJet confirms that flight EJU7299 from Palma to Lyon on April 7 returned to Palma shortly after take-off due to a minor technical issue and in accordance with current procedures.”

Impact on Passengers and Crew Changes

Following the diversion, passengers were informed of the technical problem. The airline also faced an additional challenge as the original crew had reached their maximum legal flying hours. This necessitated a crew change before the flight could be re-dispatched.

Despite the setback, passengers were able to resume their journey a few hours later. The re-scheduled flight eventually arrived in Lyon at 5:47 PM, approximately two and a half hours later than its initially planned arrival time of 3:15 PM.
