New Gay Bar ‘Le Tulum’ to Open in Lyon’s Croix-Rousse District
Lyon, May 16, 2026 – A new gay bar, ‘Le Tulum,’ is scheduled to open its doors on Friday, May 22, in Lyon’s Croix-Rousse district. The establishment, located at 10 place du lieutenant Morel in the 4th arrondissement, will be managed by Fathi Gheribi, a well-known figure in the local LGBTQIA+ and queer community. This new venture aims to create a welcoming and unifying space for the LGBTQIA+ community, while remaining open to all.
A Return to Lyon’s Nightlife Scene
Fathi Gheribi, an influential personality in Lyon’s queer scene, is making a comeback to the city’s nightlife with ‘Le Tulum.’ The new bar will occupy the former premises of Les Platanes bistro, which Gheribi previously owned before its closure. This opening is particularly anticipated within Lyon’s nightlife, as Gheribi notes that the city once boasted up to 17 gay bars, all of which have since closed.
‘Friendly,’ Festive, and Inclusive Atmosphere
Gheribi envisions ‘Le Tulum’ as a ‘friendly,’ festive, and committed establishment. It will be open daily from 10:00 AM to 1:00 AM, offering a relaxed and inclusive environment. In addition to drinks, the bar will serve food, including various couscous dishes, appetizer platters, and salads. A terrace will be available for customers’ comfort during the summer months.
Grand Opening and Upcoming Events
The grand inauguration of ‘Le Tulum’ is planned for Friday, May 22, promising a festive atmosphere with a DJ and a complimentary buffet to welcome its first patrons. Gheribi, who also owns The Base, a venue known for its regular shows and entertainment, intends for ‘Le Tulum’ to become another essential destination for queer nights in Lyon.
Two significant events are already scheduled for June. The first will be on June 21 for the Fête de la Musique, featuring several DJs. The second major event will be during Lyon’s Gay Pride March, where ‘Le Tulum’ aims to be a central gathering point. Gheribi anticipates a very busy June for the new establishment.
Revitalizing the Croix-Rousse Slopes
Beyond its festive aspect, Fathi Gheribi also seeks to contribute to the revitalization of the Croix-Rousse slopes. He believes the neighborhood has become increasingly deserted by Lyonnais residents due to a lack of parking and local entertainment. With ‘Le Tulum,’ Gheribi aims to offer a popular and accessible venue, providing a casual and unpretentious alternative to the larger chains that have proliferated in the area.
This new opening is expected to bring a fresh dynamic to the Croix-Rousse, offering a much-needed social hub for the LGBTQIA+ community and beyond. The return of a dedicated gay bar is seen as a positive step towards fostering a more vibrant and inclusive urban landscape in Lyon.
