Lyon, May 16, 2026 – A new application, “Lyon Pocket,” developed by 28-year-old Lyon web developer and ecologist metropolitan councilor Solal Gendrin, has achieved remarkable success since its launch on May 6. The app, which provides real-time information for Lyon’s TCL public transport network, has seen nearly 10,000 downloads on the App Store in just one week.

“Lyon Pocket” Revives Real-Time Transit Tracking

The application allows users to visualize all buses and trams on the TCL network in real-time on a single map. This feature is a significant development for Lyon residents, as it revives the functionality of the much-missed official TCL Live application, which is no longer available. “I really wanted to recreate TCL Live and make it work like the original. You can really see all the movements of buses and trams in real-time, with their new position appearing every 30 seconds,” explained Solal Gendrin, the creator of Lyon Pocket.

By clicking on a bus or a stop, users can view delays or upcoming schedules. The map is user-friendly, allowing for easy navigation and exploration of different areas.

Beyond Transit: Parking and Construction Updates

Gendrin’s innovation extends beyond simple transit tracking. “Lyon Pocket” includes additional services that enhance its utility for daily commuters and residents. These features include real-time visualization of available spaces in the P+R (Park and Ride) car parks across the network, as well as updates on the progress of all construction sites within the metropolis. “If there’s construction near your home, you can see what it is and where it’s at,” Gendrin added.

All information provided by the app is sourced directly from the Grand Lyon’s open data portal, which publishes a substantial amount of public data online. Gendrin emphasized the benefit of this resource, stating, “We are really lucky to have that.”

Free, Ad-Free, and Privacy-Focused

A key factor contributing to the app’s popularity is its commitment to user experience and privacy. “Lyon Pocket” is 100% free, contains no advertisements, requires no registration, and does not collect any user data. This approach has clearly resonated with users, addressing a significant demand for such a service.

“For a while, we even climbed into the top 10 navigation applications on the App Store and surpassed the RATP app. It’s a real success and it can become a real Lyon pride,” commented Solal Gendrin, expressing his satisfaction with the achievement.

While the app is currently available only on the App Store for iOS devices, an Android version is expected to be released in a few weeks, bringing its benefits to an even wider audience.
