Vénissieux, May 20 – A macabre discovery was made on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, in Vénissieux, a commune located near Lyon. Human remains, notably a skull, were unearthed by chance, prompting an immediate police investigation.

Discovery During Maintenance Work

According to initial reports, police were called to Rue Jules-Serval in an industrial zone of Vénissieux around 3:30 PM. Employees, who were reportedly carrying out maintenance work, stumbled upon human remains. A skull, in an advanced state of decomposition, was found protruding from the ground, initially covered by about ten centimeters of earth.

Specialized Teams Deployed

Upon notification, specialized units, including forensic police and firefighters, were dispatched to the scene to assist in the recovery of the remains. The area was secured as law enforcement began their preliminary observations as part of an investigation opened by the Lyon public prosecutor’s office.
