Lyon, May 23 – The Lyon metropolitan area will shine a spotlight on women entrepreneurs during the first week of June, thanks to an initiative by the Adie association. From June 1 to 5, the “Week to Create Your Business” will offer a series of nine events and workshops designed to encourage women to embark on their entrepreneurial journeys.

Adie’s Initiative to Bridge the Gender Gap in Entrepreneurship

The Association for the Right to Economic Initiative (Adie), specializing in microcredit and business creation support, highlights a persistent disparity: women are less likely than men to seek funding and support for their ventures. According to Adie’s data, women accounted for 44% of individual business creations in 2025 and 43% of business leaders. In the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, 45% of individuals financed by the association were women, an increase from 42% the previous year. However, significant gaps remain in the amounts borrowed. On average, female entrepreneurs in the region borrow 3,358 euros, compared to 4,408 euros for men.

Addressing Self-Censorship and Lack of Confidence

Étienne Taponnier, regional director of Adie, states that “the main obstacle arises much earlier: at the very moment of seeking financing. It is neither the desire, nor the ideas, nor the talent for entrepreneurship that women lack. But they still allow themselves less to get started, often due to self-censorship or lack of confidence.” Adie emphasizes a proactive approach to targeted support. “What women don’t ask for, Adie systematically offers them,” the organization stresses.

A Week of Workshops and Networking Opportunities

Over five days, a series of events will be held in Lyon and its metropolitan area, in partnership with France Travail. The program includes roundtables, employment forums, and meetings with successful female entrepreneurs. Scheduled events will take place in various locations, including Oullins, Villeurbanne, Vénissieux, and the 9th arrondissement of Lyon.

Empowering Women Through Practical Support

The “Week to Create Your Business” aims to provide practical tools, resources, and inspiration for women considering entrepreneurship. By offering tailored guidance and fostering a supportive community, Adie hopes to empower more women to overcome barriers and realize their business aspirations. The workshops will cover various aspects of business creation, from developing business plans to securing funding and navigating administrative procedures.

The Broader Impact on the Regional Economy

This initiative is expected to have a positive impact on the regional economy by fostering innovation and creating new jobs. By increasing female participation in entrepreneurship, Lyon and the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region aim to unlock untapped potential and promote a more inclusive economic landscape. The success of previous initiatives suggests that such targeted support can significantly boost the number of successful female-led businesses.

Long-Term Commitment to Gender Equality in Business

Adie’s commitment extends beyond this single week, with ongoing microcredit and support programs available throughout the year. The “Week to Create Your Business” serves as a concentrated effort to raise awareness and provide an intensive boost to women considering entrepreneurship. This aligns with broader regional goals to promote gender equality in all sectors, including business and finance.

The events are open to all women in the Lyon metropolitan area who are interested in starting their own businesses, regardless of their current stage of development. Participants will have the opportunity to network with peers, learn from experienced entrepreneurs, and access valuable resources to turn their ideas into reality.
