The Direction des routes d’Île-de-France (DiRIF) reported a significant incident in the Chennevières tunnel, located on the N12 in the direction of Paris. This incident led to the indefinite closure of a section of the N12 between the exit towards D912 (Villiers-Saint-Frédéric / Jouars-Pontchartrain) and the access from the D134.

Further compounding the congestion, traffic was also reported as particularly difficult on the A10 motorway from Massy and on the A6 from Ris-Orangis towards L’Haÿ-les-Roses.

Heat Takes Its Toll: Vehicle Breakdowns and Accidents

The intense heat played a significant role in the day’s traffic woes, not only by encouraging car usage but also by affecting vehicle performance. Info Trafic IDF reported a surge in breakdowns:

“With this sun, many two-wheelers on the roads and, unfortunately, they are the first concerned by accidents this morning. But not only that: the heat has taken its toll on your vehicles, with no less than fifteen breakdowns.”

This statement highlights the dual impact of the heat: an increase in vulnerable road users like motorcyclists and a rise in vehicle malfunctions, both contributing to delays and potential hazards.
