Paris Gears Up for Champions League Final: Special Measures in Place

Paris, France – The city of Paris is preparing for the Champions League final where Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) will face Arsenal on Saturday, May 30th, at 6:00 PM (CET) in Budapest. While no official public fan zones are planned in the city outside of the Parc des Princes, authorities have announced a comprehensive set of measures focusing on security, cleanliness, and symbolic celebrations.

Enhanced Security and Public Order

A significant security operation is being put in place across Paris and its immediate suburbs to prevent any disturbances or illegal activities. This will be complemented by an increased effort to combat delinquency, extending to public transport networks and usual gathering spots. Authorities have also stated that “specific traffic regulations and prohibitions on carrying dangerous objects will be implemented.” The municipal police will be “mobilized within the framework of its public tranquility missions.” However, beyond these precautionary measures, “everyone is called upon to experience this final in a spirit of respect, responsibility, and togetherness.”

Cleanliness and Waste Management

In parallel with security efforts, the City of Paris will reinforce its cleanliness measures. “In addition to activating the ‘Fonctionnelle’ service, a team of sanitation workers will be specifically dedicated to the areas around the Parc des Princes,” the municipality indicated. The Parc des Princes itself will host 48,000 people for the event, including “500 children from the city’s football clubs, as well as immediate residents of the stadium,” according to the reigning European champions.

Eiffel Tower to Shine in PSG Colors

Symbolically, on the eve of the match, the City of Paris will “illuminate the Eiffel Tower in red and blue and make its 150 illuminated panels available to display messages of encouragement from the public to the players.” A selection of messages submitted on www.paris.fr will be chosen for this display. On the day of the match, the Eiffel Tower will sparkle at 5:45 PM, coinciding with the teams’ entry onto the pitch at the Puskás Aréna.

PSG Aims for Second Consecutive Title

This marks the second consecutive year that Paris Saint-Germain will compete in the Champions League final. Luis Enrique’s team will face Arsenal, who have also won their domestic league title. Marquinhos and his teammates are hoping to retain their European crown and further solidify their place in history. Meanwhile, Declan Rice’s squad aims to lift the “cup with big ears” for the first time in their history, capping off a season where they broke their Premier League curse.

This final follows previous concerns regarding security during major football events in Paris. Authorities emphasize the importance of a smooth and festive experience for all, while ensuring public safety and order.
