The summit, which brings together approximately 3,000 participants, including several heads of state and government, features a prominent appearance by French President Emmanuel Macron today, April 7.
Extensive Security Measures and Traffic Disruptions
The high-profile nature of the summit and the presence of numerous dignitaries necessitate an extensive security apparatus, resulting in considerable traffic and parking restrictions across Lyon. These measures, implemented via municipal decrees, are in effect daily from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM throughout the summit duration.
Restricted Areas Detailed:
- Prefecture du Rhône Sector: Traffic is completely halted around the prefecture within a defined perimeter. Affected streets, though not entirely closed themselves, include Rue Rabelais, Avenue Maréchal de Saxe, Rue de la Part-Dieu, and Quai Victor Augagneur.
- Public Transport Adjustments (Prefecture Sector): The T1 tram line is operating on a partial service between “IUT Feyssine” and “Part-Dieu Auditorium.” The C9 bus line has also seen its service limited.
- Cité Internationale Sector: The Quai Charles de Gaulle is closed to traffic between Porte des Enfants du Rhône and the Raymond Poincaré roundabout. The Passerelle de la Paix (Peace Footbridge) is also inaccessible, along with all entry points from the Parc de la Tête d’Or. Pedestrian access to the Rhône riverbanks in this area is also restricted.
- Public Transport Adjustments (Cité Internationale Sector): The northern part of this sector is served by the “Cité Internationale – Transbordeur” stop for bus lines C1, C2, C5, C26, and 70. The southern part is served by the “Parc Tête d’Or – Churchill” stop for bus line 38. Bus lines A32 and A71 from the Ain region, which typically run along Quai Charles-de-Gaulle, have been rerouted.
Local residents, professionals, and users with legitimate reasons are permitted to access these two restricted sectors on foot. However, they are required to present a valid form of identification and proof of residence, an employer’s certificate, or a reservation to internal security forces.
