Villa Florentine in Lyon Reopens After Renovation, Blending Heritage with Modernity
Lyon, July 25, 2026 – Perched on the heights of Lyon, the Villa Florentine has reopened its doors on April 30th after several months of extensive renovation. Acquired in October 2025 by Beauvallon Collection, this iconic Lyonnaise institution now aims to combine its rich heritage with modern art de vivre, offering a unique experience to both international travelers and the local community.
Stepping through its gates, one immediately feels a sense of calm and timelessness. The spectacular panoramic view, stretching across Lyon to the Alps on a clear day, now complements the Villa Florentine’s renewed splendor.
A Historic Transformation
Originally a convent, the Villa Florentine was transformed into a hotel over 30 years ago, becoming an emblematic Relais & Châteaux property. Its recent transformation was led by architect Joséphine Fossey, who meticulously reimagined the spaces to instill a new soul while preserving its historical essence. Lucie Brindjonc, General Manager of Villa Florentine and the Beauvallon group, notes, “When you mention Villa Florentine to Lyonnais, everyone knows it. The idea was to awaken this sleeping beauty.”
Beauvallon Collection, founded in 2019 by Lyon native Amaury Rostagnat, is dedicated to a philosophy centered on the “joy of rediscovered time.” Following successful ventures in Beaune and Champagne, the family group chose Lyon to continue its expansion. The ambition is clear: “Without any pretension, our goal is to create the most beautiful hotel in Lyon.”
Extensive Renovations and New Offerings
From January to April, renovations progressed at a rapid pace, encompassing rooms, suites, common areas, restaurants, the bar, and the spa. Every detail was re-envisioned, drawing inspiration from the site’s monastic heritage, Florentine influences, and contemporary elegance.
A significant change is the Villa Florentine’s newfound openness to the city. Previously almost exclusively reserved for hotel guests, it now welcomes locals to its panoramic bar, tea room, Sunday brunch, restaurants, and a future seminar space. “We want to encourage Lyonnais to come for a drink, a coffee, or simply to enjoy the view,” explains Lucie Brindjonc.
The Apoticari Spa, inaugurated in early June, further enhances this wellness philosophy. Featuring a hammam, sauna, botanical treatments, and a fitness area, it offers an experience designed for relaxation and rejuvenation. “You arrive here after a complicated day and you almost feel like you’re on vacation. You forget you’re in Lyon,” emphasizes the director. While the Villa Florentine aims to reclaim its status as one of Lyon’s premier hotels, it also harbors significant gastronomic ambitions, with a promising young chef now at the helm, ready to write the next chapter of its culinary renaissance.
