Fire Erupts in Paris 17th Arrondissement Building, Two Critically Injured

Paris, July 4, 2026 – A significant fire erupted around 10:30 AM this Saturday in the basement of a six-story building located at 77 rue Cardinet in the 17th arrondissement of Paris. The incident prompted a large-scale response, with approximately sixty firefighters mobilized to control the blaze and conduct rescue operations.

Emergency Response and Rescues

Upon arrival, firefighters faced a challenging situation due to intense smoke originating from the 50-square-meter basement, which rapidly spread through the service stairwell up to the sixth floor. “Progression was very complicated,” stated the Paris Fire Brigade (BSPP).

Rescue teams successfully extracted three individuals from the building. Two victims, found in the basement, were immediately hospitalized in critical condition. According to the BSPP, both suffered cardiorespiratory arrest during the intervention, and their prognoses remain life-threatening. A third individual, rescued from an upper floor, sustained only minor injuries.

Fire Under Control After Two Hours

The fire, which presented considerable challenges due to the dense smoke, was brought under control by approximately 12:30 PM. Firefighters worked diligently for two hours to extinguish the flames and ensure the safety of the building’s occupants.

The exact cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Authorities have not yet released details regarding the origin of the blaze or any potential structural damage to the building. The rapid and extensive response by the Paris Fire Brigade is credited with preventing further casualties and containing the fire to the affected areas.

Local residents and passersby observed the significant emergency presence throughout the morning. The incident highlights the critical role of emergency services in responding to urban emergencies and ensuring public safety.

Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses and more information becomes available from the authorities.
