Solar Eclipse Photography Workshop in Paris: Capture the August 12th Event
For those eager to capture the rare celestial spectacle of a solar eclipse, a specialized photography workshop is being offered in Paris on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. This exclusive event provides a unique opportunity to photograph the eclipse from a private, elevated terrace in the 14th arrondissement, boasting clear views of the Montparnasse Tower and the Eiffel Tower.
What to Expect at the Workshop
The workshop, led by experienced photographer Elliott Bruno, will commence at 6:45 PM. Participants will gather at the private terrace, conveniently located just minutes from Denfert-Rochereau, offering a superb western horizon over the Parisian rooftops.
The session is structured to ensure both safety and optimal photographic results:
- Preparation and Safety (6:45 PM onwards): The workshop begins with a crucial safety briefing. Participants will receive certified EN ISO 12312-2 observation glasses, and the instructor will explain essential ocular safety rules, even when the sun is more than 90% obscured.
- Equipment Setup: Following the safety briefing, attendees will receive personalized assistance in setting up their photography equipment, whether it’s a hybrid camera, DSLR, or even a smartphone. Elliott Bruno will share valuable tips on settings that work best in low-angle light and common pitfalls to avoid.
- Eclipse Observation and Photography (7:22 PM onwards): The eclipse is scheduled to begin at 7:22 PM, with the sun positioned 16 degrees above the horizon, almost due west. For the next hour, participants will alternate between protected eye observation and capturing images as the eclipse progresses.
- Maximum Eclipse (8:17 PM): The most dramatic moment of the eclipse, when 92% of the solar disk will be obscured, is expected at 8:17 PM. At this point, the sun will be just 7 degrees high, perfectly aligned to the left of the Montparnasse Tower. This is anticipated to be the prime opportunity for a powerful photograph: the crescent sun silhouetted against the iconic tower.
- Post-Eclipse Review (until 9:30 PM): The session will continue until the sun disappears behind the Montparnasse Tower around 8:56 PM. The workshop concludes with a review of participants’ images and expert advice on post-processing techniques.
