Emergency Response and Containment Efforts

According to information from the Lyon metropolitan firefighters, six fire engines and approximately twenty firefighters were deployed to the scene. The intervention was ongoing until at least 4:35 PM, with the fire being actively monitored to prevent any rekindling or spread. “The fire, which started on the ground floor, is currently being extinguished. It is under surveillance,” stated a spokesperson for the fire department.

Several individuals were evacuated from the affected building as a precautionary measure. Firefighters assessed five people at the scene, none of whom presented any injuries. Authorities have confirmed that there were no victims as a result of the incident, a testament to the rapid and effective response of the emergency teams.

Location and Context of the Incident

The building where the fire occurred is situated on Rue Bourgelat, a street in the 2nd arrondissement of Lyon. This central location in the city meant that the incident drew considerable attention, though emergency services managed the situation efficiently to minimise disruption.

Ongoing Investigation and Future Steps

While the immediate danger has been averted, further details regarding the cause of the fire are expected to emerge as investigations proceed. The focus for now remains on ensuring the complete extinguishment of the fire and the safety of the affected building.
