It is within this distinctive setting that Laura Rucinska’s paintings are displayed. Born into a family of intellectuals and artists in Poland, Rucinska developed her artistic language through intuition and experimentation, observing her aunts and uncles at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts during her childhood. In 2013, she experienced what she describes as a ‘celestial connection,’ a pivotal moment that guided her early collections toward representations of galaxies and the profound connection between humanity and the universe.
Under her pseudonym Eos, a tribute to the ancient Greek goddess of dawn, Rucinska explores light not merely as a visual effect but as a carefully crafted presence-sometimes contained, sometimes subtly suggested. Her approach stands out in the Parisian art scene for its exacting standards: she only presents a painting when it achieves a precise balance, what she calls the ‘juste’ (the rightness).
A Pictorial Universe of Silence, Cosmos, and Mineral Matter
Eos’s works do not tell a narrative story; instead, they open up a space for contemplation. The artist speaks of translating ‘celestial messages’ through what she terms an ‘alphabet of silence’: forms that are not immediately identifiable, silhouettes that emerge and then dissipate, and a deliberate absence of a single interpretation. Viewers are not led but invited to actively engage with what they perceive, to mentally complete what the canvas only partially reveals. Michel Bénard, an observer of her work, notes ‘fleeting planets,’ ‘Saturnian shadows,’ and ‘stardust from the Milky Way’ within her compositions.
For some of her pieces, Laura Rucinska incorporates mineral materials chosen for their strong plastic and symbolic properties. Among the minerals used are:
