Shooting in Lyon: Bystander Critically Injured, Two Suspects at Large
Lyon, May 20, 2026 – A shooting that occurred on Monday evening in the États-Unis district of Lyon’s 8th arrondissement resulted in three people being wounded, with one bystander in critical condition. The victim, a man in his thirties, was hit by a stray bullet in the leg, damaging an artery and fracturing his femur. His prognosis remains life-threatening at Grange-Blanche hospital.
The incident took place around 9:30 PM on Rue Professeur Tavernier, near the États-Unis market. According to actu Lyon, the victim’s relatives expressed deep concern, emphasizing that he is not involved in any criminal activity. “This can happen to anyone,” a relative told the news outlet.
Two Other Victims Also Injured
Two other individuals were also injured in the shooting, sustaining wounds to their arms and legs. They were transported to the hospital by firefighters and Samu 69. One of these victims, believed to be the intended target, is also reported to be in serious condition.
Suspects Fled on Electric Scooters
Sources close to the investigation indicate that two shooters arrived on electric scooters, opened fire in the public street, and then fled the scene. Authorities suspect a military-grade weapon, possibly a Kalashnikov, may have been used. Police have launched an investigation to apprehend the individuals responsible.
This incident follows another shooting in the same arrondissement just days prior. On the night of Friday, May 15, to Saturday, May 16, two men were shot in the 8th arrondissement, as previously reported by local media.
The increasing frequency of such violent acts has raised concerns among residents and authorities regarding public safety in the city.
