Camille Kieffer: From Confinement Idea to Lyon’s Event Catering Star

Flour might not literally be dusting the air in Camille Kieffer’s world, but the essence of creation, passion, and relentless drive certainly is. At merely 29 years old, Camille, a graduate of Institut Lyfe (formerly Paul Bocuse), has sculpted a simple idea, born from the quiet solitude of lockdown, into a culinary powerhouse – MK Traiteur Événementiel. What began as ‘Mamie Kocotte’ is now a leading event caterer in the Lyon region, orchestrating more than 700 events each year.

The Spark of an Idea: From Instagram Story to Entrepreneurial Journey

Some entrepreneurial sagas are meticulously plotted with business plans. Camille Kieffer’s began with an Instagram story. In April 2020, as France found itself in the throes of confinement, the young graduate simply shared photos of the dishes she prepared each morning. A few days later, an order for a dinner cocktail arrived. Then another. And another. Five years on, the small, almost impulsive, self-enterprise has blossomed into a company employing around ten collaborators, adept at catering both intimate gatherings for ten and grand events for over 2,000 guests.

A Childhood Dream Diverted, a Culinary Path Forged

As a child, Camille harbored dreams of becoming a forensic pathologist. Nothing seemed to point her towards event catering, save for a profound love for cooking, inherited from her mother, and an insatiable desire for movement. After enriching experiences in Marrakech, Budapest, and Bangkok during her studies, she returned with a clear conviction: her future lay in France.

“I thought I’d end up in Tahiti, in a grand hotel. Ultimately, all those travels showed me that my place was here, close to my roots,” she reflects. A plan to open a restaurant fell through just hours before the first lockdown, a setback that paradoxically paved the way for opportunity. With her mother, she began cooking from home, personally delivering orders across Lyon, and, almost unconsciously, laying the foundations for Mamie Kocotte. Today, the Tassin boutique retains this familiar name for its regulars, while the event catering arm flourishes under the new banner of MK Traiteur Événementiel.

A Living Cuisine: Rejecting the Standardized Menu

At Camille Kieffer’s, fixed menus are an anomaly. Each service is envisioned as a singular creation, meticulously tailored to the client’s desires, the rhythm of the seasons, and the team’s culinary inspiration. “I hate knowing today what I’ll be serving a year from now. Cuisine must remain vibrant, spontaneous, and creative,” the entrepreneur insists. This freedom has become the hallmark of her establishment – a modern cuisine, deeply rooted in French fundamentals, where homemade quality is a given. Behind every service lies a family narrative; her mother now oversees production, instilling in the team the same exacting standards that lead regulars to say they can recognize MK’s dishes blindfolded.

Far from standardized catalogs, Camille prefers to listen, adapt, and imagine. “The client must leave with a service that truly reflects them,” she summarizes. This philosophy undoubtedly explains why the company now manages over 700 events and more than 1,000 deliveries annually.

“Thank You, Life”: Recognition and Resilience

Last March, the young entrepreneur had the distinct honor of joining the prestigious ‘Toques Blanches Lyonnaises’ association. This significant recognition arrived during a particularly personal time: seven months pregnant, she had chosen to keep her pregnancy private. “I feared people would think you couldn’t be both a leader and a future mother. Today, I believe that has precisely become my greatest strength,” she explains. At 29, Camille continues to question, refine her work, and strives daily to prove her rightful place.

Her ambition? To continue growing MK without ever compromising its core identity. To follow where projects lead, even hundreds of kilometers from Lyon, while remaining true to her father’s adage: “What is done is no longer to be done.” When asked to summarize her journey, she simply smiles: “Thank you, life. I find it incredible what one can experience in a single lifetime.”

Camille Kieffer’s story is not just about culinary success; it’s a testament to resilience, passion, and the power of embracing unexpected paths. It’s a vivid example of how a personal touch and unwavering dedication can transform a simple idea into a thriving enterprise, enriching the lives of those it serves, one exquisite dish at a time.
