Elderly Woman in Paris Targeted by Fake Delivery Driver

Paris, May 8 – An octogenarian was assaulted in her home on Tuesday, May 5th, in the 16th arrondissement of Paris. The victim, Hélène, spoke to CNEWS two days after the incident, recounting the harrowing experience.

The incident occurred around 4:30 PM when Hélène was returning home from grocery shopping. A man, impersonating a delivery driver, followed her into her apartment building and then into her flat. “After me, a man with a helmet entered. Since I live on the ground floor, I went straight. I opened the door, and there, he put his hand over my mouth. He pushed me, and as the cleaning lady was in the bathroom, she immediately saw the pistol. I only saw it afterwards,” Hélène described.

“I thought I was dreaming”

The assailant proceeded to search her bag and then demanded the rings from her fingers. “He told me he wanted the jewelry. He took them. But because the caretaker rang, it lasted two or three minutes. He got scared because the entrance door was still open,” Hélène added.

The suddenness of the aggression left Hélène disoriented. “I thought I was dreaming. At the time, I was so surprised that I almost thought it wasn’t an assault. I told myself, ‘Are you delusional or something?'”

The loss, however, is very real. According to police sources, three rings with a total value of 5,000 euros were stolen. The Paris public prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation into armed robbery.

Investigation Underway

The police are actively investigating the incident. The quick departure of the assailant, possibly prompted by the caretaker’s arrival, may provide crucial clues. Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, especially concerning individuals posing as delivery personnel.

This incident highlights a growing concern regarding the safety of vulnerable individuals in urban areas and the tactics employed by criminals to gain access to private residences. Local police have increased patrols in the 16th arrondissement and are working to identify the perpetrator.

The community has expressed shock and concern over the incident, with many calling for enhanced security measures and greater awareness about such scams. Residents are advised to verify the identity of any unknown individuals attempting to enter their homes, even if they appear to be legitimate service providers.

The stolen rings represent not only a financial loss for Hélène but also a deeply personal one. The emotional toll of such an invasion of privacy and personal safety is significant. Support services are being offered to the victim to help her cope with the trauma of the assault.

Police have not yet released any further details regarding possible suspects or arrests. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are appealing to anyone with information to come forward. This case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of personal security and vigilance in daily life.
