Roussillon, Isère – A grave truck accident on the A7 motorway, south of Lyon, resulted in the death of the truck driver and the closure of the highway for several hours on Wednesday, April 22, 2026. Fatal Accident and Immediate Road Closure

Return to Normalcy After Prolonged Disruptions
By 9:18 AM, the full closure of the A7 was lifted, but traffic conditions remained extremely difficult, particularly in the Vienne sector. Vinci Autoroutes announced that by 12:00 PM, the middle lane of the A7 had reopened after the Reventin-Vaugris toll booth. However, securing operations, including the replacement of safety barriers and cleaning, were expected to continue for several more hours into the afternoon.
By 2:00 PM, the major traffic management measures were being lifted. Vinci Autoroutes confirmed that the heavy vehicle recovery operations had required significant resources throughout the morning. Two out of three lanes were re-established for traffic flow, and the diversion route \”Palomar\” was no longer in effect. Traffic conditions gradually returned to normal by late afternoon.
This incident underscored the critical importance of driver vigilance on major highways and the challenges faced by emergency services and road operators in managing such severe disruptions.
