Paris, September 4, 2026 – The historic Gare de Lyon is set to unveil the ongoing restoration work to the public during the 2026 Heritage Days. This exceptional opportunity, scheduled for September 19 and 20, 2026, will allow visitors to delve into the intricate details of the station’s renovation, focusing on its iconic clock tower and the grand facade.
A Glimpse into History: The Gare de Lyon Clock Tower
The renowned clock tower of Gare de Lyon, a prominent landmark in the 12th arrondissement of Paris, has stood for 125 years, overseeing countless travelers. For the Heritage Days, an exclusive guided tour will grant access to its summit. Participants will have the rare chance to ascend 370 steps to reach a height of 61 meters, where they can explore numerous historical documents displayed on each floor. These exhibits will reveal the secrets of what was once the world’s second-largest clock in 1900.
Access to the clock tower tour is limited to 17 people per slot, and reservations are mandatory. Inscriptions will open on September 3 at 12:00 PM on the official SNCF heritage website. The tours will run from 9:00 AM to 6:45 PM on both Saturday, September 19, and Sunday, September 20, 2026.
