Givors Mother Dies in Mexico Car Accident, Daughter Repatriated to Lyon

Lyon, September 10, 2026 – A tragic road accident in Mexico has claimed the life of a 40-year-old mother from Givors, Audrey Collomb, leaving her 17-year-old daughter, Fiona, seriously injured and now repatriated to Lyon for ongoing medical treatment. The incident occurred at the end of August while the pair were on holiday.

The family from Givors is grappling with immense grief following the sudden death of Audrey Collomb, a mother of four. She was traveling with her youngest daughter, Fiona, when the fatal accident took place.

Circumstances of the Tragic Accident

Audrey and Fiona had rented a car to visit a tourist site in Mexico. On their return journey, around midnight, their vehicle veered off the road under circumstances that are still under investigation. Audrey Collomb died instantly at the scene. Mexican authorities have reportedly opened an inquiry into the incident, according to information from our colleagues at Le Progrès.

Daughter Undergoes Surgery and Repatriation

Fiona, who sustained severe injuries, was hospitalized in Mexico. She underwent surgery for an intestinal injury and also suffered a cranial trauma. After receiving initial treatment abroad, the 17-year-old was successfully repatriated to Lyon on Sunday, September 6, and is now receiving care at Lyon Sud Hospital. Her condition is reported to have improved, but she remains under close medical supervision.

Family Faces Repatriation Challenges and Financial Burden

The family is now faced with the difficult task of organizing the repatriation of Audrey’s body from Mexico. They are receiving assistance from the Mexican consulate to navigate the complex procedures involved in bringing her home.

In response to the tragedy and the associated financial strain, a fundraising campaign has been launched by the Sauveteurs de Givors. This is the club where Fiona practices jousting, and the community has rallied to support the family during this incredibly challenging time. The funds raised will help cover the significant costs related to the accident and repatriation.

Community Support and Ongoing Investigations

The news has sent shockwaves through the Givors community, where Audrey Collomb was known. Local residents and organizations are extending their condolences and support to the grieving family.

While Fiona’s condition is stabilizing, the emotional and practical challenges for the family remain substantial. The ongoing investigation in Mexico is expected to shed more light on the exact cause of the accident, providing some answers to the family and authorities.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the unforeseen dangers that can occur while traveling abroad, and the profound impact such tragedies have on families and communities.
