Lyon, June 13, 2026 – Le Ciel, a European stage dedicated to childhood and youth in Lyon, has officially launched its fourth season. The theatre, located in the 8th arrondissement, has chosen to shine a spotlight on Finland through its diverse program of shows scheduled for 2026 and 2027.
A New Chapter for Le Ciel Under Amélia Boyet’s Sole Direction
This new season marks a slightly particular turn for Le Ciel, as Amélia Boyet now stands alone at the helm of the institution. Mathieu Loos, who previously co-directed the theatre with Boyet, has stepped back to pursue his creative endeavors independently. Despite this change, the 2026-2027 program promises to maintain the theatre’s characteristic audacious and intriguing choices, consistent with previous seasons.
The theatre continues its commitment to addressing sensitive subjects without ever infantilizing its audience, making it a compelling destination for adults as well as children.
Finland in the Spotlight: Object Theatre and Poetic Journeys
As has been its tradition since its inception, Le Ciel focuses its attention on a different European country each year. For this season, Finland takes center stage with two captivating performances. The first, Invisible Lands, will kick off the season with an improbable form of object theatre where the human body serves as the ‘puppet booth’ for miniature characters.
The second Finnish production, presented by the Portmanteau company (which previously visited in February with Piste, piste, piste), offers a poetic journey inside a washing machine, showcasing delicate and inventive storytelling.
International and Original Creations Enrich the Program
Beyond the Finnish focus, audiences will have the opportunity to discover works from other international companies. A German company and a Czech company will present intriguing propositions, including L’Ombre des choses, a minimalist spectacle created with simple objects and a flashlight, and Mont St.Gumboot, a participatory show for very young children from the Drak theatre of Belgium.
The season also features several original creations. La Volière, Le Ciel’s resident company for three seasons, led by Myriam Boudenia, will present Un pouce en cavale, a piece exploring the concept of the ‘like’ in modern society. Mathieu Loos, in his new independent capacity, will unveil Cousu·es, a work delving into themes of heritage, filiation, and interdependence. Additionally, the young Lyonnaise choreographer Johana Schweizer will offer Nils, a tribute to alterity.
