Lufthansa Flight Diverted to Lyon Due to Medical Emergency
Lyon, June 4, 2026 – A Lufthansa flight traveling from Munich, Germany, to Alicante, Spain, made an emergency landing at Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport on Wednesday, June 3, 2026. The diversion was prompted by a medical emergency on board, according to information obtained by Actu Lyon.
The flight, LH1848, departed from Munich Airport around 1:00 PM. While in French airspace, south of Grenoble, near the Vercors National Park, the Airbus A320-271N was rerouted. It landed at Lyon Airport later that afternoon, around 2:20 PM.
Medical Emergency on Board
Lufthansa confirmed that the diversion was a direct result of a “medical emergency” affecting a passenger. The airline stated, “After the person concerned has been taken care of, the flight should resume its journey.”
Passengers who were diverted to Lyon were expected to continue their journey to Spain later the same day on the same flight, albeit with a delay caused by the medical evacuation. Lufthansa did not provide further details regarding the passenger’s condition.
This incident follows a similar event earlier this year, where a Delta Air Lines flight from Paris to Atlanta also made an unscheduled detour due to an on-board emergency.
The quick response of the flight crew and ground staff ensured that the passenger received prompt medical attention upon arrival in Lyon. Such diversions, while disruptive to travel plans, underscore the airline industry’s commitment to passenger safety and well-being.
The aircraft was refueled and underwent necessary checks before continuing its journey to Alicante, minimizing the overall delay for the remaining passengers.
