Moïse Kouamé, Roland-Garros Revelation, Expected at Open Sopra Steria in Lyon
Lyon, May 26 – Moïse Kouamé, the 17-year-old French tennis sensation, continues to solidify his status as a rising star in French tennis. The young player secured his first Grand Slam victory at Roland-Garros this Monday, defeating Croatian Marin Cilic, a former US Open champion. Kouamé’s participation in the Open Sopra Steria in Lyon, scheduled for June, has also been confirmed.
The Lyon tournament, celebrating its tenth edition from June 8 to 14, 2026, at the Tennis Club de Lyon, is focusing this year on the clash of generations, bringing together emerging young talents and established Top 100 players.
Lyon Tournament Continues to Uncover Future Tennis Stars
Invited with a wild card, Moïse Kouamé is expected to be one of the main attractions of this anniversary edition. Considered one of the greatest hopes in French tennis, the young player perfectly embodies the DNA of the Open Sopra Steria since its creation: allowing the public to discover the future big names of the circuit before their breakthrough at the highest level.
Since 2016, the ATP Challenger tournament in Lyon has seen several players who have now become international references, such as Félix Auger-Aliassime, Casper Ruud, Holger Rune, Arthur Fils, and Hugo Gaston.
Alongside Kouamé, several Top 100 players are also announced in Lyon, including Valentin Royer, currently ranked 73rd in the world, defending champion Marco Trungelliti, and the young Spaniard Daniel Mérida, who has made spectacular progress this season.
Monfils and Gasquet to Celebrate the Tournament’s 10th Anniversary
To mark this tenth edition, the Open Sopra Steria will also organize an exhibition match between Gaël Monfils and Richard Gasquet on Monday, June 8, on the central court of the Tennis Club de Lyon. This symbolic match between two major figures of French tennis will accompany the launch of this anniversary week.
The tournament will benefit this year from enhanced television coverage, with matches from the central court broadcast on beIN SPORTS starting from Wednesday, while the semi-finals and the final will be retransmitted on BFM Lyon.
Over the years, the Open Sopra Steria has established itself as one of the important recurring sports events in the Lyon metropolitan area, capable of attracting both young international talents, confirmed players, and an increasingly large public around clay court tennis.
